Dental care
Pets do not let us know when they have significant dental and other oral problems. As a result, oral disease in pets is often quite advanced before families recognize that there is a problem. Yet, dental disease is the most commonly diagnosed medical problem in pets. Something like 85 percent of all pets presented to veterinarians have oral problems requiring immediate treatment! Loss of teeth, bad breath, abscesses, difficulty in chewing, oral pain and cavities are all treatable conditions related to your pet's oral health.
From gum disease and fractured teeth to oral tumors and abscesses, humans and their pets have many of the same oral and dental problems. In pets as well as humans, oral disease has been shown to be an important contributing factor to medical problems elsewhere in the body, including heart, kidney and liver disease.
Just as you would consult a trained dentist for your dental problems, you should bring your pet to a veterinary dental specialist. Veterinary dental services with state of the art equipment and a commitment to excellence are readily available to meet your pet's dental needs.
A broad variety of dental services is available at Marina Pet Hospital. Evaluation and treatment of most patients requires general anesthesia. This is done with the most up to date anesthetics and monitoring. Special attention is paid to the control of post-treatment pain and discomfort through the use of local and regional anesthesia, transdermal and oral analgesics and anti-inflammatory medications. We approach treatment of each pet as if we are treating our own family member. Our goal is to return each patient to a state of wellness and optimum function while minimizing discomfort.
